Membership

Membership questions

How do I join KAMCCU?

Buy a minimum of GHS 500 in shares, present your Ghana Card, two passport pictures and your GPS address at any branch — or start online at kamccu.com/join. You can begin with a smaller amount and complete your shares within six months.

How much are shares, and what do they get me?

Shares are a one-time minimum purchase of GHS 500. They make you a co-owner of KAMCCU with one vote at the Annual General Meeting and an annual dividend when the union declares a surplus.

Who can join KAMCCU?

Everyone in Accra and beyond — individuals, groups, associations and companies. Membership opened to the whole community in the early 1990s, so you do not need to work for any particular employer.

Can my children join?

Yes. Children can be members through the Kiddie account, which has no compulsory share purchase and builds the savings habit early with built-in money education.

Savings

Savings questions

What is the minimum amount to start saving?

GHS 20 opens a savings account. There are no monthly maintenance fees, and individual, group and corporate accounts are all available.

Do my savings earn interest?

Yes — savings earn competitive interest at rates published on our rates page, and your balance keeps earning even while you have a loan running.

Can I withdraw my savings anytime?

Yes, savings are accessible at any branch during working hours (Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:00 PM). Note that your savings balance also determines your borrowing power, so a healthy balance works twice for you.

Loans

Loans questions

When can I take my first loan?

After three months of consistent saving as a member. The three-month rule builds your savings record, which becomes the basis of your borrowing power.

How much can I borrow?

Up to four times (4×) your savings balance. The more you save, the more you can borrow.

What is the interest rate on loans?

Loans start from 1% per month on a reducing balance — you only pay interest on what you still owe, not on the original amount. There are no flat-rate tricks or hidden fees.

How long do I have to repay?

Up to five years (60 months), depending on the loan product. Use the loan calculator at kamccu.com/calculators/loan to see your exact monthly payment before you apply.

What documents do I need to apply for a loan?

A completed loan application form (paper or online), your Ghana Card or other valid national ID, and details of your income or business. Depending on the loan size, guarantors who are also KAMCCU members may be required.

Do I need guarantors?

For loans within your savings balance, no guarantor is needed — your savings secure the loan. For larger loans, guarantors who are KAMCCU members in good standing may be required.

Digital & diaspora

Digital & diaspora questions

Can I deposit with mobile money (MoMo)?

Yes — you can deposit into your KAMCCU account via mobile money from anywhere in Ghana, so you never need to visit a branch just to save.

I live abroad — can I still join and save?

Yes. Ghanaians in the diaspora can join and save with KAMCCU using mobile money and money transfer services. Start the membership process online and contact us at info@kamccu.com for diaspora-specific guidance.
